In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

alif lam ra. these are the verses of the wise book (1)

what! is it a wonder to the people that we revealed to a man from among themselves, saying: warn the people and give good news to those who believe that theirs is a footing of firmness with their lord. the unbelievers say: this is most surely a manifest enchanter (2)

surely your lord is allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six periods, and he is firm in power, regulating the affair, there is no intercessor except aher his permission; this is allah, your lord, therefore serve him; will you not then mind? (3)

to him is your return, of all (of you); the promise of allah (made) in truth; surely he begins the creation in the first mstance, then he reproduces it, that he may with justice recompense those who believe and do good; and (as for) those who disbelieve, they shall have a drink of hot water and painful punishment because they disbelieved (4)

he it is who made the sun a shining brightness and the moon a light, and ordained for it mansions that you might know the computation of years and the reckoning. allah did not create it but with truth; he makes the signs manifest for a people who (5)

most surely in the variation of the night and the day, and what allah has created in the heavens and the earth, there are signs for a people who guard (against evil) (6)

surely those who do not hope in our meeting and are pleased with this world's life and are content with it, and those who are heedless of our communications: (7)

(as for) those, their abode is the fire because of what they earned (8)

surely (as for) those who believe and do good, their lord will guide them by their faith; there shall flow from beneath them rivers in gardens of bliss (9)

their cry in it shall be: glory to thee, o allah! and their greeting in it shall be: peace; and the last of their cry shall be: praise be to allah, the lord of the worlds (10)

and if allah should hasten the evil to men as they desire the hastening on of good, their doom should certainly have been decreed for them; but we leave those alone who hope not for our meeting in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on (11)

and when affliction touches a man, he calls on us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when we remove his affliction from him, he passes on as though he had never called on us on account of an affliction that touched him; thus that which they do is made fair-seeming to the extravagant (12)

and certainly we did destroy generations before you when they were unjust, and their messengers had come to them with clear arguments, and they would not believe; thus do we recompense the guilty people (13)

then we made you successors in the land after them so that we may see how you act (14)

and when our clear communications are recited to them, those who hope not for our meeting say: bring a quran other than this or change it. say: it does not beseem me that i should change it of myself; i follow naught but what is revealed to me; surely i fear, if i disobey my lord, the punishment of a mighty day (15)

say: if allah had desired (otherwise) i would not have recited it to you, nor would he have taught it to you; indeed i have lived a lifetime among you before it; do you not then understand? (16)

who is then more unjust than who forges a lie against allah or (who) gives the lie to his communications? surely the guilty shall not be successful (17)

and they serve beside allah what can neither harm them nor profit them, and they say: these are our intercessors with allah. say: do you (presume to) inform allah of what he knows not in the heavens and the earth? glory be to him, and supremely exalted is he above what they set up (with him) (18)

and people are naught but a single nation, so they disagree; and had not a word already gone forth from your lord, the matter would have certainly been decided between them in respect of that concerning which they disagree (19)

and they say: why is not a sign sent to him from his lord? say: the unseen is only for allah; therefore wait-- surely i too, with you am of those who wait (20)

and when we make people taste of mercy after an affliction touches them, lo ! they devise plans against our communication. say: allah is quicker to plan; surely our messengers write down what you plan (21)

he it is who makes you travel by land and sea; until when you are in the ships, and they sail on with them in a pleasant breeze, and they rejoice, a violent wind overtakes them and the billows surge in on them from all sides, and they become certain that they are encompassed about, they pray to allah, being sincere to him in obedience: if thou dost deliver us from this, we will most certainly be of the grateful ones (22)

but when he delivers them, lo! they are unjustly rebellious in the earth. o men! your rebellion is against your own souls-- provision (only) of this world's life-- then to us shall be your return, so we will inform you of what you did (23)

the likeness of this world's life is only as water which we send down from the cloud, then the herbage of the earth of which men and cattle eat grows luxuriantly thereby, until when the earth puts on its golden raiment and it becomes garnished, and its people think that they have power over it, our command comes to it, by night or by day, so we render it as reaped seed; produce, as though it had not been in existence yesterday; thus do we make clear the communications for a people who reflect (24)

and allah invites to the abode of peace and guides whom he pleases into the right path (25)

for those who do good is good (reward) and more (than this); and blackness or ignominy shall not cover their faces; these are the dwellers of the garden; in it they shall abide (26)

and (as for) those who have earned evil, the punishment of an evil is the like of it, and abasement shall come upon them-- they shall have none to protect them from allah-- as if their faces had been covered with slices of the dense darkness of night; these are the inmates of the fire; in it they shall abide (27)

and on the day when we will gather them all together, then we will say to those who associated others (with allah): keep where you are, you and your associates; then we shall separate them widely one from another and their associates would say: it was not us that you served: (28)

therefore allah is sufficient as a witness between us and you that we were quite unaware of your serving (us) (29)

there shall every soul become acquainted with what it sent before, and they shall be brought back to allah, their true patron, and what they devised shall escape from them (30)

say: who gives you sustenance from the heaven and the earth? or who controls the hearing and the sight? and who brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living? and who regulates the affairs? then they will say: allah. say then: will you not then guard (against evil)? (31)

this then is allah, your true lord; and what is there after the truth but error; how are you then turned back? (32)

thus does the word of your lord prove true against those who transgress that they do not believe (33)

say: is there any one among your associates who can bring into existence the creation in the first instance, then reproduce it? say: allah brings the creation into existence, then he reproduces it; how are you then turned away? (34)

say: is there any of your associates who guides to the truth? say: allah guides to the truth. is he then who guides to the truth more worthy to be followed, or he who himself does not go aright unless he is guided? what then is the matter with you; how do you judge? (35)

and most of them do not follow (anything) but conjecture; surely conjecture will not avail aught against the truth; surely allah is cognizant of what they do (36)

and this quran is not such as could be forged by those besides allah, but it is a verification of that which is before it and a clear explanation of the book, there is no doubt in it, from the lord of the worlds (37)

or do they say: he has forged it? say: then bring a chapter like this and invite whom you can besides allah, if you are truthful (38)

nay, they reject that of which they have no comprehensive knowledge, and the final sequel of it has not yet come to them; even thus did those before them reject (the truth); see then what was the end of the unjust (39)

and of them is he who believes in it, and of them is he who does not believe in it, and your lord best knows the mischief-makers (40)

and if they call you a liar, say: my work is for me and your work for you; you are clear of what i do and i am clear of what you do (41)

and there are those of them who hear you, but can you make the deaf to hear though they will not understand? (42)

and there are those of them who look at you, but can you show the way to the blind though they will not see? (43)

surely allah does not do any injustice to men, but men are unjust to themselves (44)

and on the day when he will gather them as though they had not stayed but an hour of the day, they will know each other. they will perish indeed who called the meeting with allah to be a lie, and they are not followers of the right direction (45)

and if we show you something of what we threaten them with, or cause you to die, yet to us is their return, and allah is the bearer of witness to what they do (46)

and every nation had a messenger; so when their messenger came, the matter was decided between them with justice and they shall not be dealt with unjustly (47)

and they say: when will this threat come about, if you are truthful? (48)

say: i do not control for myself any harm, or any benefit except what allah pleases; every nation has a term; when their term comes, they shall not then remain behind for an hour, nor can they go before (their time) (49)

say: tell me if his punishment overtakes you by night or by day! what then is there of it that the guilty would hasten on? (50)

and when it comes to pass, will you believe in it? what! now (you believe), and already you wished to have it hastened on (51)

then it shall be said to those who were unjust: taste abiding chastisement; you are not requited except for what you earned (52)

and they ask you: is that true? say: aye! by my lord! it is most surely the truth, and you will not escape (53)

and if every soul that has done injustice had all that is in the earth, it would offer it for ransom, and they will manifest regret when they see the chastisement and the matter shall be decided between them with justice and they shall not be dealt with unjustly (54)

now surely allah's is what is in the heavens and the earth; now surely allah's promise is true, but most of them do not know (55)

he gives life and causes death, and to him you shall be brought back (56)

o men! there has come to you indeed an admonition from your lord and a healing for what is in the breasts and a guidance and a mercy for the believers (57)

say: in the grace of allah and in his mercy-- in that they should rejoice; it is better than that which they gather (58)

say: tell me what allah has sent down for you of sustenance, then you make (a part) of it unlawful and (a part) lawful. say: has allah commanded you, or do you forge a lie against allah? (59)

and what will be the thought of those who forge lies against allah on the day of resurrection? most surely allah is the lord of grace towards men, but most of them do not give thanks (60)

and you are not (engaged) in any affair, nor do you recite concerning it any portion of the quran, nor do you do any work but we are witnesses over you when you enter into it, and there does not lie concealed from your lord the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven, nor any thing less than that nor greater, but it is in a clear book (61)

now surely the friends of allah-- they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve (62)

those who believe and guarded (against evil): (63)

they shall have good news in this world's life and in the hereafter; there is no changing the words of allah; that is the mighty achievement (64)

and let not their speech grieve you; surely might is wholly allah's; he is the hearing, the knowing (65)

now, surely, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is allah's; and they do not (really) follow any associates, who call on others besides allah; they do not follow (anything) but conjectures, and they only lie (66)

he it is who made for you the night that you might rest in it, and the day giving light; most surely there are signs in it for a people who would hear (67)

they say: allah has taken a son (to himself)! glory be to him: he is the self-sufficient: his is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; you have no authority for this; do you say against allah what you do not know? (68)

say: those who forge a lie against allah shall not be successful (69)

(it is only) a provision in this world, then to us shall be their return; then we shall make them taste severe punishment because they disbelieved (70)

and recite to them the story of nuh when he said to his people: o my people! if my stay and my reminding (you) by the communications of allah is hard on you-- yet on allah do i rely-- then resolve upon your affair and (gather) your associates, then let not your affair remain dubious to you, then have it executed against me and give me no respite: (71)

but if you turn back, i did not ask for any reward from you; my reward is only with allah, and i am commanded that i should be of those who submit (72)

but they rejected him, so we delivered him and those with him in the ark, and we made them rulers and drowned those who rejected our communications; see then what was the end of the (people) warned (73)

then did we raise up after him messengers to their people, so they came to them with clear arguments, but they would not believe in what they had rejected before; thus it is that we set seals upon the hearts of those who exceed the limits (74)

then did we send up after them musa and haroun to firon and his chiefs with our signs, but they showed pride and they were a guilty people (75)

so when the truth came to them from us they said: this is most surely clear enchantment! (76)

musa said: do you say (this) of the truth when it has come to you? is it magic? and the magicians are not successful (77)

they said: have you come to us to turn us away from what we found our fathers upon, and (that) greatness in the land should be for you two? and we are not going to believe in you (78)

and firon said: bring to me every skillful magician (79)

and when the magicians came, musa said to them: cast down what you have to cast (80)

so when they cast down, musa said to them: what you have brought is deception; surely allah will make it naught; surely allah does not make the work of mischief-makers to thrive (81)

and allah will show the truth to be the truth by his words, though the guilty may be averse (to it) (82)

but none believed in musa except the offspring of his people, on account of the fear of firon and their chiefs, lest he should persecute them; and most surely firon was lofty in the land; and most surely he was of the extravagant (83)

and musa said: o my people! if you believe in allah, then rely on him (alone) if you submit (to allah) (84)

so they said: on allah we rely: o our lord! make us not subject to the persecution of the unjust people: (85)

and do thou deliver us by thy mercy from the unbelieving people (86)

and we revealed to musa and his brother, saying: take for your people houses to abide in egypt and make your houses places of worship and keep up prayer and give good news to the believers (87)

and musa said: our lord! surely thou hast given to firon and his chiefs finery and riches in this world's life, to this end, our lord, that they lead (people) astray from thy way: our lord! destroy their riches and harden their hearts so that they believe not until they see the painful punishment (88)

he said: the prayer of you both has indeed been accepted, therefore continue in the right way and do not follow the path of those who do not know (89)

and we made the children of israel to pass through the sea, then firon and his hosts followed them for oppression and tyranny; until when drowning overtook him, he said: i believe that there is no god but he in whom the children of israel believe and i am of those who submit (90)

what! now! and indeed you disobeyed before and you were of the mischief-makers (91)

but we will this day deliver you with your body that you may be a sign to those after you, and most surely the majority of the people are heedless to our communications (92)

and certainly we lodged the children of israel in a goodly abode and we provided them with good things; but they did not disagree until the knowledge had come to them; surely your lord will judge between them on the resurrection day concerning that in which they disagreed (93)

but if you are in doubt as to what we have revealed to you, ask those who read the book before you; certainly the truth has come to you from your lord, therefore you should not be of the disputers (94)

and you should not be of those who reject the communications of allah, (for) then you should be one of the losers (95)

surely those against whom the word of your lord has proved true will not believe, (96)

though every sign should come to them, until they witness the painful chastisement (97)

and wherefore was there not a town which should believe so that their belief should have profited them but the people of yunus? when they believed, we removed from them the chastisement of disgrace in this world's life and we gave them provision till a time (98)

and if your lord had pleased, surely all those who are in the earth would have believed, all of them; will you then force men till they become believers? (99)

and it is not for a soul to believe except by allah's permission; and he casts uncleanness on those who will not understand (100)

say: consider what is it that is in the heavens and the earth; and signs and warners do not avail a people who would not believe (101)

what do they wait for then but the like of the days of those who passed away before them? say: wait then; surely i too am with you of those who wait (102)

then we deliver our messengers and those who believe-- even so (now), it is binding on us (that) we deliver the believers (103)

say: o people! if you are in doubt as to my religion, then (know that) i do not serve those whom you serve besides allah but i do serve allah, who will cause you to die, and i am commanded that i should be of the believers (104)

and that you should keep your course towards the religion uprightly; and you should not be of the polytheists (105)

and do not call besides allah on that which can neither benefit you nor harm you, for if you do then surely you will in that case be of the unjust (106)

and if allah should afflict you with harm, then there is none to remove it but he; and if he intends good to you there is none to repel his grace; he brings it to whom he pleases of his servants; and he is the forgiving, the merciful (107)

say: o people! indeed there has come to you the truth from your lord, therefore whoever goes aright, he goes aright only for the good of his own soul, and whoever goes astray, he goes astray only to the detriment of it, and i am not a custodian over you (108)

and follow what is revealed to you and be patient till allah should give judgment, and he is the best of the judges (109)

AD-DUKHAN

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

ha mim! (1)

i swear by the book that makes manifest (the truth) (2)

surely we revealed it on a blessed night surely we are ever warning-- (3)

therein every wise affair is made distinct, (4)

a command from us; surely we are the senders (of messengers), (5)

a mercy from your lord, surely he is the hearing, the knowing, (6)

the lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure (7)

there is no god but he; he gives life and causes death, your lord and the lord of your fathers of yore (8)

nay, they are in doubt, they sport (9)

therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, (10)

that shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment (11)

our lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers (12)

how shall they be reminded, and there came to them an messenger making clear (the truth), (13)

yet they turned their backs on him and said: one taught (by others), a madman (14)

surely we will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil) (15)

on the day when we will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely we will inflict retribution (16)

and certainly we tried before them the people of firon, and there came to them a noble messenger, (17)

saying: deliver to me the servants of allah, surely i am a faithful messenger to you, (18)

and that do not exalt yourselves against allah, surely i will bring to you a clear authority: (19)

and surely i take refuge with my lord and your lord that you should stone me to death: (20)

and if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone (21)

then he called upon his lord: these are a guilty people (22)

so go forth with my servants by night; surely you will be pursued: (23)

and leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned (24)

how many of the gardens and fountains have they left! (25)

and cornfields and noble places! (26)

and goodly things wherein they rejoiced; (27)

thus (it was), and we gave them as a heritage to another people (28)

so the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited (29)

and certainly we delivered the children of israel from the abasing chastisement, (30)

from firon; surely he was haughty, (and) one of the extravagant (31)

and certainly we chose them, having knowledge, above the nations (32)

and we gave them of the communications wherein was clear blessing (33)

most surely these do say: (34)

there is naught but our first death and we shall not be raised again (35)

so bring our fathers (back), if you are truthful (36)

are they better or the people of tubba and those before them? we destroyed them, for surely they were guilty (37)

and we did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in sport (38)

we did not create them both but with the truth, but most of them do not know (39)

surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them (40)

the day on which a friend shall not avail (his) friend aught, nor shall they be helped, (41)

save those on whom allah shall have mercy; surely he is the mighty the merciful (42)

surely the tree of the zaqqum, (43)

is the food of the sinful (44)

like dregs of oil; it shall boil in (their) bellies, (45)

like the boiling of hot water (46)

seize him, then drag him down into the middle of the hell; (47)

then pour above his head of the torment of the boiling water: (48)

taste; you forsooth are the mighty, the honorable: (49)

surely this is what you disputed about (50)

surely those who guard (against evil) are in a secure place, (51)

in gardens and springs; (52)

they shall wear of fine and thick silk, (sitting) face to face; (53)

thus (shall it be), and we will wed them with houris pure, beautiful ones (54)

they shall call therein for every fruit in security; (55)

they shall not taste therein death except the first death, and he will save them from the punishment of the hell, (56)

a grace from your lord; this is the great achievement (57)

so have we made it easy in your tongue that they may be mindful (58)

therefore wait; surely they are waiting (59)

AZ-ZUKHRUF

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

ha mim (1)

i swear by the book that makes things clear: (2)

surely we have made it an arabic quran that you may understand (3)

and surely it is in the original of the book with us, truly elevated, full of wisdom (4)

what! shall we then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? (5)

and how many a prophet have we sent among the ancients (6)

and there came not to them a prophet but they mocked at him (7)

then we destroyed those who were stronger than these in prowess, and the case of the ancients has gone before, (8)

and if you should ask them, who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: the mighty, the knowing one, has created them; (9)

he who made the earth a resting-place for you, and made in it ways for you that you may go aright; (10)

and he who sends down water from the cloud according to a measure, then we raise to life thereby a dead country, even thus shall you be brought forth; (11)

and he who created pairs of all things, and made for you of the ships and the cattle what you ride on, (12)

that you may firmly sit on their backs, then remember the favor of your lord when you are firmly seated thereon, and say: glory be to him who made this subservient to us and we were not able to do it (13)

and surely to our lord we must return (14)

and they assign to him a part of his servants; man, to be sure, is clearly ungrateful (15)

what! has he taken daughters to himself of what he himself creates and chosen you to have sons? (16)

and when one of them is given news of that of which he sets up as a likeness for the beneficent allah, his face becomes black and he is full of rage (17)

what! that which is made in ornaments and which in contention is unable to make plain speech! (18)

and they make the angels-- them who are the servants of the beneficent allah-- female (divinities). what! did they witness their creation? their evidence shall be written down and they shall be questioned (19)

and they say: if the beneficent allah had pleased, we should never have worshipped them. they have no knowledge of this; they only lie (20)

or have we given them a book before it so that they hold fast to it? (21)

nay! they say: we found our fathers on a course, and surely we are guided by their footsteps (22)

and thus, we did not send before you any warner in a town, but those who led easy lives in it said: surely we found our fathers on a course, and surely we are followers of their footsteps (23)

(the warner) said: what! even if i bring to you a better guide than that on which you found your fathers? they said: surely we are unbelievers in that with which you are sent (24)

so we inflicted retribution on them, then see how was the end of the rejecters (25)

and when ibrahim said to his father and his people: surely i am clear of what you worship, (26)

save him who created me, for surely he will guide me (27)

and he made it a word to continue in his posterity that they may return (28)

nay! i gave them and their fathers to enjoy until there came to them the truth and a messenger making manifest (the truth) (29)

and when there came to them the truth they said: this is magic, and surely we are disbelievers in it (30)

and they say: why was not this quran revealed to a man of importance in the two towns? (31)

will they distribute the mercy of your lord? we distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and we j have exalted some of them above others in degrees, that some of them may take others in subjection; and the mercy of your lord is better than what they amass (32)

and were it not that all people had been a single nation, we would certainly have assigned to those who disbelieve in the beneficent allah (to make) of silver the roofs of their houses and the stairs by which they ascend (33)

and the doors of their houses and the couches on which they recline, (34)

and (other) embellishments of gold; and all this is naught but provision of this world's life, and the hereafter is with your lord only for those who guard (against evil) (35)

and whoever turns himself away from the remembrance of the beneficent allah, we appoint for him a shaitan, so he becomes his associate (36)

and most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: (37)

until when he comes to us, he says: o would that between me and you there were the distance of the east and the west; so evil is the associate! (38)

and since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement (39)

what! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error? (40)

but if we should take you away, still we shall inflict retribution on them; (41)

rather we will certainly show you that which we have promised them; for surely we are the possessors of full power over them (42)

therefore hold fast to that which has been revealed to you; surely you are on the right path (43)

and most surely it is a reminder for you and your people, and you shall soon be questioned (44)

and ask those of our messengers whom we sent before you: did we ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the beneficent allah? (45)

and certainly we sent musa with our communications to firon and his chiefs, so he said: surely i am the messenger of the lord of the worlds (46)

but when he came to them with our signs, lo! they laughed at them (47)

and we did not show them a sign but it was greater than its like, and we overtook them with chastisement that they may turn (48)

and they said: o magician! call on your lord for our sake, as he has made the covenant with you; we shall surely be the followers of the right way (49)

but when we removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge (50)

and firon proclaimed amongst his people: o my people! is not the kingdom of egypt mine? and these rivers flow beneath me; do you not then see? (51)

nay! i am better than this fellow, who is contemptible, and who can hardly speak distinctly: (52)

but why have not bracelets of gold been put upon him, or why have there not come with him angels as companions? (53)

so he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people (54)

then when they displeased us, we inflicted a retribution on them, so we drowned them all together, (55)

and we made them a precedent and example to the later generations (56)

and when a description of the son of marium is given, lo! your people raise a clamor thereat (57)

and they say: are our gods better, or is he? they do not set it forth to you save by way of disputation; nay, they are a contentious people (58)

he was naught but a servant on whom we bestowed favor, and we made him an example for the children of israel (59)

and if we please, we could make among you angels to be successors in the land (60)

and most surely it is a knowledge of the hour, therefore have no doubt about it and follow me: this is the right path (61)

and let not the shaitan prevent you; surely he is your j open enemy (62)

and when isa came with clear arguments he said: i have come to you indeed with wisdom, and that i may make clear to you part of what you differ in; so be careful of (your duty to) allah and obey me: (63)

surely allah is my lord and your lord, therefore serve him; this is the right path: (64)

but parties from among them differed, so woe to those who were unjust because of the chastisement of a painful day (65)

do they wait for aught but the hour, that it should come ! upon them all of a sudden while they do not perceive? (66)

the friends shall on that day be enemies one to another, except those who guard (against evil) (67)

o my servants! there is no fear for you this day, nor shall you grieve (68)

those who believed in our communications and were submissive: (69)

enter the garden, you and your wives; you shall be made happy (70)

there shall be sent round to them golden bowls and drinking-cups and therein shall be what their souls yearn after and (wherein) the eyes shall delight, and you shall abide therein (71)

and this is the garden which you are given as an inheritance on account of what you did (72)

for you therein are many fruits of which you shall eat (73)

surely the guilty shall abide in the chastisement of hell (74)

it shall not be abated from them and they shall therein be despairing (75)

and we are not unjust to them, but they themselves were unjust (76)

and they shall call out: o malik! let your lord make an end of us. he shall say: surely you shall tarry (77)

certainly we have brought you the truth, but most of you are averse to the truth (78)

or have they settled an affair? then surely we are the settlers (79)

or do they think that we do not hear what they conceal and their secret discourses? aye! and our messengers with them write down (80)

say: if the beneficent allah has a son, i am the foremost of those who serve (81)

glory to the lord of the heavens and the earth, the lord of power, from what they describe (82)

so leave them plunging into false discourses and sporting until they meet their day which they are threatened with (83)

and he it is who is allah in the heavens and allah in the earth; and he is the wise, the knowing (84)

and blessed is he whose is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and with him is the knowledge of the hour, and to him shall you be brought back (85)

and those whom they call upon besides him have no authority for intercession, but he who bears witness of the truth and they know (him) (86)

and if you should ask them who created them, they would certainly say: allah. whence are they then turned back? (87)

consider his cry: o my lord! surely they are a people who do not believe (88)

so turn away from them and say, peace, for they shall soon come to know (89)

AL-QIYAMA

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

nay! i swear by the day of resurrection (1)

nay! i swear by the self-accusing soul (2)

does man think that we shall not gather his bones? (3)

yea! we are able to make complete his very fingertips (4)

nay! man desires to give the lie to what is before him (5)

he asks: when is the day of resurrection? (6)

so when the sight becomes dazed, (7)

and the moon becomes dark, (8)

and the sun and the moon are brought together, (9)

man shall say on that day: whither to fly to? (10)

by no means! there shall be no place of refuge! (11)

with your lord alone shall on that day be the place of rest (12)

man shall on that day be informed of what he sent before and (what he) put off (13)

nay! man is evidence against himself, (14)

though he puts forth his excuses (15)

do not move your tongue with it to make haste with it, (16)

surely on us (devolves) the collecting of it and the reciting of it (17)

therefore when we have recited it, follow its recitation (18)

again on us (devolves) the explaining of it (19)

nay! but you love the present life, (20)

and neglect the hereafter (21)

(some) faces on that day shall be bright, (22)

looking to their lord (23)

and (other) faces on that day shall be gloomy, (24)

knowing that there will be made to befall them some great calamity (25)

nay! when it comes up to the throat, (26)

and it is said: who will be a magician? (27)

and he is sure that it is the (hour of) parting (28)

and affliction is combined with affliction; (29)

to your lord on that day shall be the driving (30)

so he did not accept the truth, nor did he pray, (31)

but called the truth a lie and turned back, (32)

then he went to his followers, walking away in haughtiness (33)

nearer to you (is destruction) and nearer, (34)

again (consider how) nearer to you and nearer (35)

does man think that he is to be left to wander without an aim? (36)

was he not a small seed in the seminal elements, (37)

then he was a clot of blood, so he created (him) then made (him) perfect (38)

then he made of him two kinds, the male and the female (39)

is not he able to give life to the dead? (40)
